Eastern brown argus

Plebejus carmon euaemon

A small blue with a wingspan of 25-30 mm. As an argus, males and females are brownish with crescent-shaped orange-red spots on the wings. The eastern brown typically lives higher up in the mountains, in woodland, forest clearings, alpine meadows, and on stony slopes. Host plants include horned sainfoin (Onobrychis cornuta) and milk-vetches (Astragalus spp.). This butterfly flies May through July.
