Argynnis pandora pandora

A very large fritillary with a wingspan of 72-84 mm, of an unmistakable greenish-orange colour while females are larger and brighter; the forewings are slightly concave and the undersides are dark green. This species lives in all types of habitats, like farmland, gardens, meadows, plains, and stony slopes, but prefers woodland edges and flowery glades. The host plants associated with this butterfly are violets (Viola spp.). It flies May through September in several broods, the flight is described as fast and powerful.
