Large elephant hawkmoth

Deilephila elpenor

A larger hawkmoth with a wingspan of 60-70 mm. The elephant is found in many types of habitats, such as sand dunes, gardens, hedges, woodland, grassland, and urban places. Host plants include bedstraw (Galium spp.) and willowherb (Epilobium spp.). This moth flies May through September, and is nocturnal.
