Small elephant hawkmoth

Deilephila porcellus

A medium-sized hawkmoth with a wingspan of 45-55 mm, resembles the larger elephant species, but is smaller, more yellowish, and lacks the wide pink abdominal stripe. The small elephant is found in coastal areas, meadows, and open grassland. Host plants include bedstraw (Galium spp.) and willowherb (Epilobium spp.). This moth flies May through July, and is nocturnal.
