Fiery copper

Lycaena thetis zahaltensis

A copper with a wingspan of 30-34 mm, males are a bright copper-red while females have more conspicuous black markings and longer tails, undersides being yellowish unlike other species. The fiery lives at higher altitudes, on steppes and stony mountainsides. The host plants associated with this species are prickly-thrifts (Acantholimon spp.). This butterfly flies in the months of July and August.
