Five-spot burnet

Zygaena trifolii

A burnet with a wingspan of 28-33 mm, like the six-spot but smaller, with five red spots on each forewing, and a wide dark margin on the hindwings. The five-spot prefers damp grassland. Host plants include birdsfoot-trefoil (Lotus spp.). This species flies June through August.
