Melitaea cinxia clarissa

A fritillary with a wingspan of 37-52 mm, females are often considerably larger and sandy or greyish-brown while males are an orange-red colour, with black lines and spots. The Glanville inhabits roadsides, scrub, woodland, dry meadows, flower-rich grassland, and mountain pastures. Host plants include milfoils (Achillea spp.), knapweeds (Centaurea spp.), speedwells (Veronica spp.), violets (Viola spp.), plantains (Plantago spp.), and clubgrasses (Corynephorus spp.). It flies April through early August, the flight is fast, erratic, and gliding.
