Ilex hairstreak

Satyrium ilicis bischoffi

Another hairstreak with a wingspan of 32-36 mm, resembles the blue-spot but with less distinct markings, the orange patches in the female reduced to spots. The ilex lives along the coast, in dry fields, meadows, oak scrub and woodland, and forest edges. Host plants are represented by oak trees (Quercus spp.), almond (Prunus amygdalus), elms (Ulmus spp.), and buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica). This butterfly flies from May through early August.
