Iolana iolas
A larger blue butterfly with a wingspan of 36-42 mm, males being a violet-blue while females more bluish. The Iolas lives primarily in drier parts to the east of the country, in scrub, thickets, stony ground, and mountains. Host plants consist of bladder-senna (Colutea spp.) and slender-leaved vetch (Vicia tenuifolia). This species flies in the months of May and June, the flight is fast and active, males flying further away from host plants than females. This butterfly is considered near threatened in parts of its range.
