Orthetrum coerulescens

A fairly small dragonfly with a body length of 36-45 mm and a hindwing length of 28-33 mm, characterised by the tawny-brown face, blue-grey eyes, brown thorax, and light blue abdomen in males (yellowish-brown in females). This dragonfly lives in slow-flowing streams and rivers, as well as pools, ponds, and lakes. The keeled flies May through August, spending much of its time perched on the water’s edge but seldom sitting on the ground.
