Ochlodes sylvanus faunus

A larger of the “golden skippers” with a wingspan of 26-36 mm, the colour is a brownish orange-red while the undersides are greenish-yellow. The large lives in many habitats such as farmland, gardens, roadsides, wetland, scrub, thickets, woodland, forest edges, meadows, and dry grassy slopes. Host plants include coach-grass (Agropyron repens), orchard-grass (Dactylis glomerata), velvet-grass (Holcus lanatus), reed fescue (Festuca arundinacea), reed (Phragmites australis), false-bromes (Brachypodium spp.), and rushes (Juncus spp.). It flies June through August, the flight is fast and whirling.
