Lesser fiery copper

Lycaena thersamon omphale

A common copper butterfly with a wingspan of 28-32 mm, males are copper-orange and lack markings on the forewings while females have many black dots. The lesser fiery lives in many habitats, such as coasts, scrub, flower-rich grassland, meadows, dry stony slopes, and semi-desert. Host plants include bird knotgrass (Polygonum aviculare), docks (Rumex spp.), and knapweeds (Centaurea spp.). This species flies April through October.
