Levantine grizzled skipper

Pyrgus melotis melotis

A larger skipper with a wingspan of 32-36 mm, differs from other species by being larger and lighter, with large creamy-white spots on the undersides. Also called the “Aegean skipper,” the Levantine grizzled lives in a number of habitats, such as coastal dunes, riversides, grassy slopes, woodland, meadows, and mountain springs. Host plants include liverwort (Agrimonia eupatoria), blackberries (Rubus spp.), and strawberries (Fragaria spp.). It flies May through September.
