Lime hawkmoth

Mimas tiliae

A large hawkmoth with a wingspan of 70-80 mm, the male is smaller but more strongly marked. Host plants include lime (Tilia spp.), elm (Ulmus spp.), alder (Alnus spp.), mulberry (Morus spp.), almond (Prunus spp.), and oak (Quercus spp.). This moth flies March through June, the adults are nocturnal and do not feed.
