Oberthür’s grizzled skipper

Pyrgus armoricanus philonides

A skipper with a wingspan of 24-28 mm, of a golden-brown colour but darker than other species and with less conspicuous white markings on the forewings; the undersides are a pale reddish-brown. The Oberthür’s grizzled lives in thickets, waysides, woodland, grassland, meadows, gullies, and stony slopes. Host plants include cinquefoils (Potentilla spp.), strawberries (Fragaria spp.), and yellow sunrose (Helianthemum nummularium). It flies May through August in several broods.
