A larger and robust damselfly with a body length of 40-50 mm and a hindwing length of 30-35 mm, usually a dark brown, males more bluish while females yellowish-black. This damselfly, often mistakened for a dragonfly, lives near stony creeks, streams, and rivers in hilly places and mountains. The odalisque flies May through August, its flight is strong and resembles that of a dragonfly, its wings are kept fully spread when resting.
