Orbiferous skipper – LEPIDOPTERA LIBANOTICA

Orbiferous skipper

Spialia orbifer hilaris

A skipper with a wingspan of 25-30 mm, of a dark brown colour with prominent white markings but varies with broods. Also called the “orbed red-underwing skipper,” the orbiferous lives in many different types of habitats, such as farmland, roadsides, riversides, flower-rich scrub, garrigue, thickets, forest edges, meadows, pastures, plains, and grassy slopes. The host plants associated with this butterfly are cinquefoils (Potentilla spp.). It flies April through August in several broods, the flight is fast, erratic, and close to the ground.
