Persian fritillary

Melitaea persea montium

A smaller fritillary with a wingspan of 30-40 mm, of a yellow or orange colour with fewer spots compared with other species. The Persian lives primarily at higher altitudes, in evergreen forests, oak woodland, dry grassland, semi-desert, and on stony mountainsides. Host plants include species of plantain (Plantago spp.) and toadflaxes (Linaria spp.). This butterfly flies from April through August.
