Privet hawkmoth

Sphinx ligustri

One of the larger hawkmoths with a wingspan of 100-120 mm. The privet lives primarily in gardens, maquis, and woodland. Host plants include ash (Fraxinus spp.) and jasmine (Jasminum spp.). This moth flies July through August.
