A smaller slender damselfly with a body length of 30-39 mm and a hindwing length of 19-23 mm, an iridescent green, brown, and yellowish in colour, the pterostigma is a dark reddish-brown with a thin white line. Also known as the “small emerald spreadwing,” this damselfly lives in standing, shallow water and wetland such as ponds and lakes, as well as irrigation ditches. The small flies April through October, and spreads its wings at a 45 degree angle when resting.
