Zerny’s anomalous blue

Polyommatus alcestis alcestis

An argus with a wingspan of 28-32 mm, males are dark brown with a characteristic white streak on the underside. The Zerny’s anomalous lives in the mountains at high altitudes, in grassy and shrubby places, damp meadows, and on stony slopes. Host plants associated with this butterfly are sainfoins (Onobrychis spp.). This butterfly flies June through September, and often congregates in the thousands.
